BACKGROUND
What is a Tuk Tuk?
A Tuk Tuk is a specially constructed motor tricycle. These vehicles were originally designed to replace the “Samlor” or “Trishaw” – a three wheeled bicycle which is used as a taxi in numerous cities around the world. The original Tuk Tuks were powered by a motor scooter engine of 100-175 cc and were noted for being rather noisy – hence the name “Tuk Tuk”, which was the sound they made when idling!
Why are Expertise Tuk Tuks different?
Khun Anuwat Yuteeraprapa, the founder and Managing Director of Expertise Co Ltd, was born into the Tuk Tuk business. His father owned one of the largest and most successful Tuk Tuk factories in Thailand. With the advances in technology and awareness of environmental issues, Anuwat realised that it was time for the humble Tuk Tuk to embrace the future. After many years research and with direction from the Thai Government, who were keen to limit the number of noisy and polluting scooter-powered Tuks Tuks on the streets of Bangkok, he designed a stronger and safer vehicle. The biggest innovation though was the use of an environmentally friendly yet powerful car engine – the 660 cc, 3 cylinder, 4 stroke Daihatsu Hi-Jet. This engine can be adapted to run on CNG or LPG which would then give it one of the smallest carbon footprints of any vehicle. All Expertise Tuk Tuks come with laminated windscreens, front disk brakes, dual servo breaking system and seatbelts for passengers and driver as standard.
Why are Expertise Tuk Tuks different?
This “Super Tuk Tuk” is a quantum leap forward. The Expertise Tuk Tuks were now capable of more than just being a cheap taxi in Asia’s congested cities. Expertise Tuk Tuks come in many disguises: The 3 seaters and 6 seaters passenger carrying vehicles are perfect for tours along waterfronts and also offer a fun mode of transport for trips to major tourist sites or as a hotel, golf-estate, conference centre, restaurant, pub etc. shuttle or courtesy transport.
